The DUI Traffic Task Force was first started in 1983 to educate
the public and enforce Alabama DUI Laws. Since its beginning,
the Unit annually is ranked as the number one DUI enforcement
unit in the State of Alabama. The Alabama Department of Forensic
Science ranks the seven HPD DUI Officers in the top ten listing
of highest performing DUI arresting officers in the State every
year. The members of the unit were awarded the Outstanding Unit
Citation in 2009 for their outstanding work in 2008.
The DUI Traffic Task Force Unit is made up of one Sergeant and
seven highly motivated Patrol Officers. The unit is tasked with
the primary duty to enforce the State of Alabama’s Title 32
(Rules of the Road) with an emphasis on DUI enforcement. The DUI
Traffic Task Force is also involved in public awareness programs
to educate the public on the dangers of operating a motor
vehicle while under the influence of narcotics and alcohol. The
DUI Traffic Task Force has city-wide responsibility and uses
enforcement techniques such as high volume traffic stops,
sobriety safety checkpoints, roving and saturation patrols to
apprehend and deter impaired and intoxicated drivers. The unit
is also involved in the training of Police Cadets in the academy
and outside agencies.
The DUI Task Force is a pro-active unit charged with the enforcement of DUI Laws. This unit was recognized by the Alabama Legislature after being named the TOP DUI ENFORCEMENT IN ALABAMA in
2009.
