The Huntsville Police Department currently receives grant funding from various sources, including Federal and State agencies. Our department strives to obtain grant funding to provide resources that are not able to be funded from local general funding.

As of January 1, 2011, the Huntsville Police Department is currently operating from the following grants:
 

         1) Name of Grant: FY 2008 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant

Granting Agency: Department of Justice- Bureau of Justice Assistance

Amount:          $ 69,315 for FY 2008; 

$238,394 for FY 2009;

$ 1,015,283 for FY 2009 “Recovery Act”

$223,897 for FY 2010

 *These grants will be shared with the Madison County Commission. It will allow for the purchase of various computer and equipment upgrades. It will also assist with funding the Gang Intervention and Violence Education (GIVE) Program, conducted by the Madison County District Attorney Office.

5) Name of Grant: FY 2010-2011 Strategic Counterdrug Team Grant

Granting Agency: Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs, Law Enforcement Traffic Safety Division

Amount:          $309,294

 *This grant will assist in funding the daily operation of the Madison/Morgan County Drug Task Force.

6) Name of Grant: FY 2010 High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Grant

Amount:          $123,746 for FY 2010;

                        $103,282 for FY 2011

 *This grant will assist in funding the daily operation of the Madison/Morgan County Drug Task Force.

8) Name of Grant: FY 2009 “Recovery Act” COPS Hiring Grant

Granting Agency: Department of Justice, Community Oriented Policing Service (COPS) Office

Amount:          $2,625,720

*This grant will provide funding for 15 additional police officers salaries and fringe benefits.

9) Name of Grant: FY 2010 COPS Technology Grant

Granting Agency: Department of Justice, COPS Office

Amount: $750,000

*This grant will provide funding for the purchase of in-car video camera systems for police patrol vehicles.
