How to Report a Crime

How do you report a crime? Immediately call the Police Department at 256-722-7100 or visit the Police Station at 815 Wheeler Ave or your local precinct.  You will be asked for your name, address, and telephone number. This information is requested in case additional information is needed. However, you may request to remain anonymous and any information that you provide will be kept in confidence. An officer will take the necessary information from you and proceed with an investigation. Information needed by the Police includes what happened, where it happened, when it happened and if anyone was injured. You will be asked for the names or physical descriptions of any people involved, including facial features, kinds of clothing worn, and an age estimate. This is valuable information for Police. A description is needed of any vehicles involved including the color, model, year and most importantly, the license plate number. Be alert and observant! Features and physical descriptions that you remember can greatly assist Police in the apprehension of criminals.

To report a crime call 256-722-7100.
To report an emergency, call 911.

If you are reporting a crime such as burglary, robbery, or theft, the Police need as much information as possible about the property taken. This includes an accurate description of the property, the value, and the serial numbers. All residents and businesses are advised to maintain an up-to-date record of the serial numbers of all appliances, tools, audio and video equipment, firearms and other valuables. In some instances a photograph is an excellent record. Also, items can be serialized with your driver's license number. Providing an accurate description of your property to the Police goes a long way in helping to recover the property.

Remember, never hesitate to call the Police.
