Juvenile 14, Charged with Murder of 16-year-old

 

Huntsville, Alabama (June 19, 2007) Investigators with the Huntsville Police Department’s Major Crimes unit have charged a 14-year-old juvenile male with Murder. Spokesman Wendell Johnson said 16-year-old Jamie Collier of 612 Dawson Terrace was fatally shot by the juvenile shortly before 11:00 o’clock last night. Ms. Collier was with a group of teenagers who became involved in a verbal confrontation with another set of teenagers. The incident occurred at the intersection of Mt Vernon Road and Yale Circle. Johnson said the confrontation escalated to a physical fight, several shots were fired and Ms. Collier was struck in the chest. She was transported to Huntsville Hospital where she died.

 

Johnson said the juvenile who fired the shot initially fled the scene, but later turned himself in to police. He was booked in the Neaves Davis Center for Children (D-home). Ms. Collier’s death was Huntsville’s 8^th homicide for this year.
