Huntsville Police Target Speeders in School Zones
Huntsville, Alabama (January 8, 2007) Citizens can expect to see more Huntsville Police Officers running radar in school zones starting this week. The enforcement effort is a direct result of motorists speeding through school zones and ignoring the commands of Public Safety Aides, who are there to protect students. There are currently 82 Public Safety Aides directing traffic.
Police Chief Rex Reynolds had his staff identify school zones where we will increase police presence and crash reduction efforts. The speed limit is 25 mph in school zones unless otherwise posted. Officers will target motorists who speed, make illegal turns or ignore the commands of the Public Safety Aids. The patrols will begin immediately and continue through the remainder of the school year.
