Click It or Ticket Campaign Underway in the Valley
Huntsville, Alabama (May 16, 2008) The Huntsville Police Department joined law enforcement agencies across the country for the National Click it or Ticket campaign. During a Friday afternoon news conference the agencies announced that the campaign will begin Saturday, May 17, 2008 and conclude Sunday, June 1, 2008 here in North Alabama. Sgt. Floyd Smith, DUI Task Force Supervisor, said the traffic enforcement will be conducted at various locations across Huntsville’s so called “Hot Spots” designated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Sgt. Smith added that they will monitor motorist on the streets as well as conduct various Traffic Safety Checkpoints. Huntsville Police will strictly enforce all traffic laws to make our streets safer for our families.
Preventing motorists from Driving under the Influence will be among our primary concerns Sgt. Smith added. Under Alabama State Law, a person over the age of 21 is legally intoxicated when they register .08 on the BAT. Juveniles are legally intoxicated at .02. Motorists will be cited for the following violations: Failure to wear a seat belt, not having a valid driver’s license, proof of insurance and valid vehicle registration and tags. As of May 4, 2008 the DUI Task Force has issued 3,013 citations and arrested a total of 561 DUI arrests. Some of the checkpoints will be announced in advance. Others will be set up with no advanced notification. Motorists should obey all posted speed limits, traffic signs and signals.

Drake Avenue at Penny Street
Jordan Lane at Sparkman
University Drive at Jordan Lane
Mastin Lake at Pulaski Pike
Plummer Road and County Road 53
Shawmont at Blue Springs Road
Blue Springs at Sparkman Drive
South Parkway at English Drive
Bailey Cove at Willowbrook Drive
Blevins Gap at Sequoyah Trail
Clinton Avenue at Monroe Street
Louis Drive and McBride between Quail Hollow Road and Cecil Ashburn Drive
