Woman Rescued from Burning Vehicle Charged in Incident

 

Huntsville, Alabama (May 21, 2008) On May 20^th, Investigators from the Huntsville Police Department’s Domestic Violence/Child Abuse Unit arrested Melissa Nichole Henderson Ford, age 23, and charged her with one count of Child Abuse and Driving Under the Influence. She was booked into the Madison County Metro jail.

 

Public Safety Spokesman Wendell Johnson said the arrest came as a result of a traffic accident on Thursday, May 15^th on Old Madison Pike near Slaughter Road. Ford was driving her vehicle with her 2-year-old daughter, when the vehicle ran off the road, flipped and caught fire. Two people rescued the mother and daughter from the burning vehicle before it became engulfed in flames. Ford and the baby were taken to a local hospital with non life threatening injuries. The child is in the custody of another family member.
