Suspects Arrested in Rash of Auto Thefts
Huntsville, Alabama (June 25, 2009) Investigators in the Huntsville Police Departmentís South Precinct have arrested and charged two individuals in connection with a rash of Auto Theft cases of Chevy / GMC Pick-up Trucks and SUVs that have been occurring over the past seven months in South and West Huntsville. Investigators obtained a video of a stolen truck last week that led to the identification of 2 offenders. The 2 offenders were identified as Frank James Payne, W/M, age 45 and Anthony James Brunsman, W/M, age 29 both of Laceys Springs, AL. They were both arrested and charged with Theft of Property 1st Degree (Auto Theft). Payne is also wanted out of Texas for similar charges and has been charged as a Fugitive from Justice. Both are being held in the Metro Jail.
Investigators from the South and West Precincts have recovered one vehicle, one trailer, car parts, laptop computers, cell phones, GPS units, radar detectors, Sirius radios, jewelry, designer sunglasses & clutch purses, tools, and yard equipment.
Police are expecting to clear at least 61 cases involving stolen vehicles. Police have also identified property recovered from numerous vehicle break-ins dating back to 2007 in South and West Huntsville primarily on or near South Parkway and University Dr. The investigation continues and police are attempting to identify and contact victims to return the stolen property.
