Huntsville Police Make Arrest in Copper Thefts

 Huntsville, Alabama (August 20, 2010) On August 20, 2010 at approximately 02:30 hours, uniforms officers were patrolling around 2601 North Memorial Parkway.  Officers witnessed a suspicious vehicle and upon investigation observed a white male hiding under a trailer where he was discovered to be in possession of burglary tools. The suspect was taken into custody and was transported to the North Precinct for questioning.  He later confessed to being involved in numerous thefts in the Huntsville area. Officers arrested & charged Nakia Wayne Waits, 35 years of age, of Lacey Springs with 2 Counts of Theft of Property 1^st Degree and 1 Count of Theft of Property 2^nd Degree. He was mainly targeting commercial AC units, drainage grate covers, and iron water covers from commercial businesses. He also admitted to stealing metal covers belonging to Huntsville Utilities throughout the city.  The subject has been linked to 15 cases involving theft and we suspect more cases in the future.
