Veteranís Day Parade 2010 Ė Downtown Huntsville
 

 

Huntsville, Alabama (November 09, 2010) Huntsvilleís annual Celebration of Veteranís Day will occur Thursday, November 11, 2010. The roads in downtown Huntsville will be closed in stages for the parade beginning at 9:30 AM.  All of the roadways for the parade will be closed by 10:50 AM and the parade will begin at 11:00 AM.  The parade should be finished and all roads open by 1:15 PM. Citizens traveling in the downtown area on Thursday should expect two hours of slow moving detours in the area and drive with extreme caution due to the large number of children and pedestrians crossing the roads to view the parade. The Huntsville Police Department will be posting officers at all affected intersections to keep traffic flowing and business open in the area.

 

The parade will assemble and begin in parking Lot K at Clinton and Woodson Avenue and travel east on Clinton Avenue, turn right/south on Monroe Street, turn left/east on William Avenue, turn left/north on Greene Street, continue on to Monroe Street traveling west then south, turn right/west on Holmes Avenue disbanding between Monroe Street and Pollard Street. Once the parade passes the intersection of Monroe Street at Jefferson Street, Monroe Street between Washington Street and Jefferson Street will be closed for a special flag retirement ceremony to be held in the street directly in front of the Veteranís Memorial Park.

 

The following information is included to help assist motorists in navigating the downtown area during the parade.

 

 

DESTINATION ROUTES - EXITS

 

Lewter's Hardware, Halsey's Grocery

West on Holmes Avenue from Five Points

North on Washington Street

West on Meridian Street

South on Jefferson Street

West on Holmes Avenue

South on Church Street toward Governors Drive to exit.

 

Greyhound Bus Station

 West on Holmes Avenue from Five Points to the bus station at Monroe Street

Exit east on Holmes Avenue

South on Church Street toward Governors Drive.

 

Goodyear Tire Store

West on Holmes Avenue from Five Points

South on Jefferson Street

East on Clinton Avenue

Exit through gaps in parade on Clinton Avenue at Green Street. 

 

VBC Garage

Exit onto Church Street.  Travel south on Church Street or east on Clinton Avenue and put vehicles through gaps in the parade.
