Huntsville Police Announce Changes to the New Law Regarding Banned
 Synthetic Drug Ingredients

Huntsville, Alabama (October 21, 2011)  On October 14, 2011, Executive Order Number 24 was signed by the Governor of Alabama. The Executive Order states that synthetic marijuana products, such as those known as “Spice” and “K2”, pose an immediate risk to public safety, and that law enforcement officers are authorized to seize any of these items immediately.  These products have been added to the Alabama Controlled Substances list as Schedule 1 Hallucinogenic drugs by the State Health Officer.

Starting October 24, 2011, anyone found in possession of, or selling, any of the banned products will be subject to arrest. Those arrested will be charged with Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance, which is a Class C Felony Offense.

The Huntsville Police Department has been working closely with the Madison County District Attorney’s Office to establish clear guidelines regarding implementation of this new law.
