Huntsville Police Announce Downtown Road Closures For WhistleStop Festival



Huntsville, Alabama (May 4th 2011) In preparations for the annual weekend long WhistleStop Festival, the Huntsville Police Department will be closing several streets around the Train Station Depot in Downtown Huntsville. The following road closing and opening schedule will be followed for the WhistleStop Festival to be held on Friday May 6th and Saturday May 7th 2011.


Beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday May 5th, 2011, the outside northbound lane of Church Street starting at the railroad tracks to 100 feet south of Monroe Street, Monroe Street between Church Street and Jefferson Street, Spragins Street between Monroe Street and Holmes Avenue will all be closed.  The right turn lane of Jefferson Street from the eastbound I-565 exit ramp to Monroe Street is also included. All streets will be re-opened by 12:00 p.m. on Sunday May 8th, 2011.


The WhistleStop Festival will be open to the public on Friday May 6th from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. and on Saturday May 7th, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.


Huntsville Police encourage motorists to use caution when driving around the downtown area this weekend.  Additionally, attendees should use well lit, designated parking lots and secure all valuable items out of plain sight in locked vehicles.
