Huntsville Ranks 5th Safest in U.S.

Allstate Insurance Company has released their 7th Annual America’s
Best Drivers Report, the report ranks which of America’s 200 largest cities are
the safest for drivers. Huntsville was ranked the 5th safest city in
the nation. According to their findings, Huntsville drivers will average 12.3
years between accidents. Last year, Huntsville ranked the 8th safest
city for drivers in the U.S., although the population has increased, our ranking
In 2005, there were 11,108 traffic accidents with 43 fatalities in the City of Huntsville. HPD implemented the Traffic Crash Reduction Program in 2006. The Program was based on a comprehensive analysis of fatality and serious injury accidents and the factors that caused them. A strategic enforcement plan was initiated along with a public awareness driving safety campaign. The goal was to reduce fatalities, serious injuries, and the number of traffic accidents. In 2010, there were 7,460 accidents with 20 fatalities in the city of Huntsville. During that 5 year span, accidents decreased by 32% and fatalities by 53%.
