Huntsville, Alabama (August 12, 2013) Huntsville Police, with assistance from the FBI, have identified the individual shot and killed during an encounter with officers last Friday morning as Brent Egan Dotson, w/m DOB 11-06-56. Preliminary autopsy results indicate he died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Dotson was wanted out of Horry County, South Carolina, where he was awaiting sentencing involving a child sex offense conviction, involving the rape of a minor child.

On Friday, August 9, 2013, at approximately 8 a.m., Huntsville Police responded to a call of a suspicious person in the area of Mountain View Mobile Home Park on Slaughter Rd.  When officers arrived, they observed Dotson sitting in a chair at the entrance of the mobile home park.  As they began to question Dotson, he produced a handgun.
