Huntsville Police Release Findings of
 Incident Review Board


Huntsville, Alabama (August 21, 2013) On Tuesday, August 20, 2013, an Incident Review Board was convened to exam evidence and hear testimony related to an officer involved shooting incident that occurred on August 9, 2013, in the 1800 Block of Slaughter Road.  The Board was chaired by Captain JesHenry Malone, and consisted of Lieutenant Ken Brooks, and Sergeant Michael Danley.  Representatives from the City Attorney’s Office and the Madison County District Attorney’s Office were also present to review all evidence and hear all testimony. 

On August 9, 2013, Huntsville Police received a call at 8:01 a.m. about a suspicious person in the 1800 Block of Slaughter Road. Police made contact with the suspect, and during questioning, the suspect produced and fired a weapon.  The Police Officer fired on the suspect as he produced the weapon.    The suspect was taken by HEMSI to Huntsville Hospital and pronounced dead around 0930 a.m. The coroner ruled the cause of death to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

After careful review of the evidence and testimony, the Board concluded that the Officer’s actions were in accordance with Departmental policies.  Huntsville Police Chief Lewis Morris concurred with the findings of the Review Board and the Officer involved has been returned to full duty.
