HPD Arrest Shooting Suspect

Huntsville, Alabama (January 13, 2014) On Saturday, January 11th 2014, Officers responded to the Benchwarmer club to investigate gunshots that were fired inside the club.  Upon response they discovered five shooting victims.  A juvenile offender was taken into custody and the weapon was recovered.  The five victims are still at Huntsville Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.  The offender was arrested and booked into the Robert Neaves Detention Center and charged with 5 counts of Assault 1st.

The juvenile offender has a prior history of arrests.  The evidence indicates the shooting was a result of a fight inside the bar.  The offender and two victims are juveniles; while the remaining three victims are adults.

Jordan Darell Baker, B/M, 10-07-92 - 21 y/o

John Wesley Brewer, B/M, 5-5-93 20 y/o

Craig Allen Shelnut, W/M, 9-13-82 -31 y/o

Benchwarmer is classified as a lounge with an entertainment license. This liquor license stipulates patrons must be 19 years of age or older to enter. Due to the fact that several juveniles were inside the club when the shooting took place, Chief Lewis Morris has suspended the city liquor license, pending further investigation.  The club owner was contacted and agreed to voluntarily surrender his license. Agents from the Alabama Beverage Control Board (ABC) are assisting HPD personnel with the ongoing investigation.

We will be available to answer any questions pertaining to this case at 5:30 p.m. in the downstairs HPD training room located at the Public Safety Center.
