Is Your House Haunted? Forum Should Wake Up All Parents

Huntsville, Alabama (October 10, 2006) Frantic parents rush to an emergency room to find their child has just overdosed on prescription drugs and alcohol at a house party for teens. According to Deborah Soule with Partnership for a Drug Free Community, this is fast becoming a nightmare for parents who “assumed” their child would never do drugs or alcohol.

That’s why a group of panelists want parents to attend a community forum entitled “Parents: Is Your House Haunted”? Are there dangers lurking within your home”? The event will take place on October 17, 2006 from 6:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. at the Huntsville City Council Chambers, 1st floor, Huntsville City Hall. Huntsville Police Chief Rex Reynolds, who chairs the forum, has over 17 years experience in narcotics and has seen the nightmares first hand. Reynolds said, “While many teenagers aren’t allowed in nightclubs because of the laws, parents fail to realize that they leave their teenagers and their friends at home with and without adult supervision, assuming that they are safe around the parent’s bar and prescription drugs. Those ingredients have led to deadly consequences.”

The goal of the forum will be to alert parents about open house parties, prescription drugs, alcohol and date rape drugs. The panelists will include representatives from law enforcement, medical and legal field, clergy and parents.
