Huntsville Police Investigate 11th and 12th Traffic fatalities

Huntsville, Alabama (May 16, 2006) Investigators with the Huntsville Police Department are looking into two separate traffic fatalities that occurred on Tuesday.

Police spokesman Wendell Johnson said the first fatality occurred about 2:49 this morning when 19-year-old Elijio Ramirez of Decatur was killed on I-565. Ramirez was traveling west in the eastbound lanes when his 1989 Accura struck a Tennessee Valley Recycle truck head on.  The truck driver was not seriously injured.

The second fatality of the day occurred at 9:35 a.m. at Winchester Road and Memorial Parkway. An eastbound dump truck was stopped at the traffic light when a Ford Focus driven by 42-year-old William Lee Baker of Huntsville ran into the rear of the truck. Baker was pronounced dead at the scene. The Major Crimes Unit is investigating both fatalities.
