Checkpoints Announced For Memorial Day Weekend
Huntsville, Alabama (May 24, 2006) The Huntsville Police Department’s DUI Task Force will set up checkpoints beginning Friday, May 26th thru Monday, May 29th. Sgt. Juan Joyner said all checkpoints will run from 11:00 p.m. – 3:30 a.m. and will include multiple locations. Police Officers from the North, South and West Precincts will also join the Task Force to conduct saturation patrols, radar details and enforce posted speed limits. Motorists should anticipate Police Officers stationed at major intersections to enforce seat belt laws and traffic signals.
Last year, drivers who ran a stop sign or traffic signal caused over 700 traffic crashes. Many of the accidents caused serious injuries. Last year a record 43 people died in traffic crashes. Because of that unfortunate record, Police Chief Rex Reynolds has instructed Officers to strictly enforce all traffic laws in an effort to make our streets safer for our families. The following are just a few locations motorists can expect to find checkpoints this Memorial Day weekend.
Whitesburg and Drake Avenue University Drive and Jeff Road
Whitesburg Drive and Teakwood South Parkway and Martin Road
South Parkway and Hobbs Island Road Jordan Lane and 9th Street
Wall Triana and Electronics Blvd University Drive and Church Street
