Zero Tolerance in Huntsville City School
Zones
Huntsville, Alabama (August 9, 2006) Huntsville Police Rex Reynolds has instructed his Officers to strictly enforce posted speed limits and other traffic laws in public and private school zones. Huntsville City Schools will resume classes on Wednesday, August 9th for the first full day of school. Police spokesman Wendell Johnson said motorists should allow for extra travel time and expect traffic delays and congestion in and around school zones. Huntsville Police Traffic Task Force and Officers from all 3 precincts will be monitoring traffic and issuing citations for traffic violations
Motorists should also remember to obey the hand signals of Safety Patrol Aides who are working to protect school age children and assist in traffic control. When a driver approaches a Safety Patrol Aide directing traffic, and the front and/or the back of the Aide is facing the driver, that means come to a complete STOP. Also, please consider each child as a “Caution” sign. Be aware of all school cross walks and look out for children who may jump out from behind parked cars. Finally, all traffic coming and going should come to a complete “STOP” when a school bus loads and unloads students.
