Routine Traffic Stop Leads to Drug Bust

 

Huntsville, Alabama (September 11, 2006) Two local men are in the Madison County Metro Jail this morning, charged with Trafficking in Cocaine. On Friday afternoon, an interdiction agent with the Madison-Morgan County Strategic Counter drug Team (STAC) stopped a speeding vehicle on I-565 near county line road in Madison County. During the stop, the agent’s K-9 partner alerted to the odor of narcotics coming from the vehicle.

STAC Team Commander, Sgt. Gerry Norris said after searching the vehicle, ½ kilogram of cocaine and crack was discovered, along with $20,000 in cash. The occupants of the vehicle 28-year-old Patrick Steele of Decatur and 29-year-old Maurice Jones were detained and questioned. Later Friday evening a search warrant was issued for Jones’ residence at 685 Providence Main #122. Agents recovered another kilo of cocaine worth an estimated street value of $210, 000, and a 9mm pistol. Norris said all of the drugs, cash and property seized have an estimated value of $250,000. Both men are being held on a bond of $500,000 each.
